On the 18th of January, the Bundestag decided on new deportation regulations. The law was passed with a majority of the SPD, Greens and FDP. The maximum duration of exit detention will be extended from the current 10 to 28 days so that the authorities can better prepare expulsions.

In addition, the police are allowed to search rooms in shared accommodations other than those in which the person concerned lives. Deportations generally no longer need to be announced. Additional grounds for detention and deportation will be introduced. Opportunities for objection and legal action are restricted.
